"We are up to our eyeballs in arsons," says Varnas, of the Detroit Fire Department. "We're not only dealing with hardened criminals. We're dealing with desperate people."

Unfortunately, Detroit is one of the growing number of cities in this country that could be described as a third world hellhole and this surprises me not one bit. The natives of Detroit have Devils Night just for kicks ... burning everything in sight.

I grew up in Toledo Ohio, Malcolm, and have many fond memories of going to the Detroit auto show with my father.

But the glory days of Detroit are long gone. And it will never ever return to it's former glory or status. All of the good people have been driven out leaving all the garbage to wallow in the mess.

It's the "Broken Windows" part of Detroit that I can't get over. Even downtown there are enormous skyscrapers that are completely gutted and empty with windows out as high as someone could reach them with a stone. It is almost surreal to see some of the sights in Detroit. You could almost be in another country.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1394468811677580882.post-21169191892289322652008-01-30T09:06:00.000-05:002008-01-30T09:06:00.000-05:00I agree that felony arson is not the smartest solu...I agree that felony arson is not the smartest solution.

I’m from the Detroit area, so I am especially attune to the problems of that city.

It’s downright tragic to see what has happened to the city of Detroit.

If you find the time, look at this “Before and After” look at Detroit. Where it once was, and where it is now.

If you don’t have the time, just look at the second video (the “After” video), to see why people in Detroit are so hopeless that they could consider such a thing.

http://malcolmrant.blogspot.com/2008/01/detroit-before-and-after.htmlMalcolmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14203165125962395123noreply@blogger.com
