I am an awful American

I slept in 'till 8:30 today. I woke up at a decent hour, drank coffee, played with the dog, did a couple of hours worth of work and had some leftovers. That was my morning/afternoon on the day after Thanksgiving. I know, I know I should be ashamed of myself.

What I didn't do was this:

OR THIS

OR THIS

and that makes me a very bad American.

I didn't succumb to the endless commercials barking at me to shop till I drop. I didn't listen to the media tell me how exciting this all is and if I don't get down to the WalMart by 5:00am I may as well commit suicide since I am missing out on the greatest human activity ever known.

The same media that every Wednesday before TK tells us that airports will be packed and highways jammed. And then repeats the circus show4 days later with harrowing tales of airport delays on Sunday.

These sales items are available after Christmas every year and for even lower prices. However the media is so effective in manipulating people, they will go make fools of themselves in the middle of the night with the media cheering them on.

It is disgusting.

People keeping their money, and not getting into debt is a good thing for them and the banks. Not so good for retailers. But that's the risk you take opening a store.

Imagine what would happen to all of the retail operations if no one ever used a credit card again!

Interesting name you got there yjm, I'll assume it's a crack at the "jews control the world" folks....the country would be better off if people did not get into debt. If everyone didn't spend 20% in interest charges on their credit cards they'd have 20% more disposable income, and hence they could buy 20% more stuff.

The reason credit cards are used is the gotta have it now mentality. Credit cards allow someone with no money saved to buy whatever they want now. It takes away the incentive to save and only buy what you can afford.

I personally use credit cards for everything since I get bennies from the credit cards. I never pay interest so I come out ahead.

Anon-

You are correct. I was inspired by certain posters on Housing Panic.

Drop by my blog sometime!
